The Great East Japan Earthquake left behind about 30 million tons of rubble and sediment. About 90% of it was recycled into civil engineering materials and other items. Recycling such a large amount of material is unprecedented anywhere in the world, and is a groundbreaking achievement. Only the Japanese can be so thorough in sorting the rubbish with such daunting manual labor. It is thought that this is because "Japanese people have a culture of valuing and being grateful for things." Touching an object is a dialogue with the MATERIAL. It is also a way of coming into contact with the feelings of the person who made it. The body listens to the MATERIAL and changes.
